Facilities are open daily 8am-6pm Research, education and community service group dedicated to the development of sustainable agriculture. Offers undergraduate and graduate courses and also sponsors a 6-month ecological horticulture training course through University Extension. A community support group, the Friends of the Farm and Garden, concentrates on outreach to the community via free lecture series, workshops and classes such as wreath-making, garden preparation, pruning, etc. on a monthly basis. Members receive a subscription to the News and Notes newsletter. Brochures and informational material are also available on specific components of the Center and a brochure that provides a general overview. Between approximately June and October organic produce and flowers from the Farm and Garden are for sale at the Market Cart at the campus entrance, in front of the Barn Theatre, on Tuesdays and Fridays from noon to 6pm June 15-Oct. 15 (approximately). Tours: Both the 30-acre UCSC Farm and 3-acre Alan Chadwick Garden are open to the public daily from 8am to 6pm, with a self-guided tour brochure available at the Farm entrance. Large groups can call 459-3240 to schedule a group tour and for directions to the farm and garden. ELIGIBILITY: Depends upon level of participation desired; for instance, for admission to undergraduate and/or graduate courses, one should contact the Admissions Office. For information about applying to the Apprenticeship in Ecological Horticulture via UC Extension, one should contact the Program directly or look up the website. Classes and workshops offered by the Friends of the Farm & Garden are open to the public. FEES: UCSC student fees fixed. 6-mo apprenticeship fixed fees. Small fees for classes/functions of Friends of Farm and Garden. | ||
