We offer supervised instrument petting zoos at family concerts and community events. Audience members may try out different instruments with the help of the performers and learn first hand how the instruments make music. | ||
| Programs: | We run a free information and referral service, putting the public in touch with exemplary music teachers and community music groups offering instruction on a myriad of instruments and styles.
Throughout the year, CMS provides educational and affordable concerts to the public that feature local luminaries as well as internationally known performers. There is usually about one event per month, including the Living History Concert series. Teen Celtic Music Camp June 17-22, 2013, overnight or day options http://www.communitymusicschool.org/teen_camp/ Kid Celtic Music Camp August 5-17, Monday-Friday, August 5-16, 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM with a Garden Concert/Party on Saturday Aug. 17 from 10-2. http://www.communitymusicschool.org/kid_camp/ Learn and perform tunes from Ireland, Scotland, England, Wales, Britanny, Scandinavia, Celtic Spain and America, for players of fiddle, flute, pennywhistle, recorder, oboe, harp, guitar, dulcimer, accordion, keyboards, percussion and cello. Other activities include singing, dancing, swimming, crafts and bamboo flute making. Participants must be proficient on one of the above instruments and have played for at least two years. Music Match Through this instrument adoption program we place donated instruments with people and organizations that really need them. Music Match adoption is available for music students of all ages. We accept most small instruments (guitars, flutes, violins, etc) that are in good shape - special arrangements must be made for pianos and other large instruments. The School also has a few affordable rental instruments available. New Events: What: 13th Annual Redwood Dulcimer Day; full day of workshops on lap dulcimer for novice to advanced players Who: Featuring special guest artist Karen Mueller of Minneapolis, a virtuoso lap dulcimer artist/instructor (and International Autoharp Champion!) as well as Bay Area-based faculty Neal Hellman, Peter Tommerup and D.J. Hamouris. When: Saturday, August 10, 2013 Time: 9:30am-5:30pm workshops; 7:00pm concert Where: Aptos Methodist Church 221 Thunderbird Drive Aptos, CA 95003 How much: Workshops: $50 (advance), $60 (at the door); Concert: $15 adult /$10 student (suggested donation at the door).
