| Description: | HELP! provides support, education, & advocacy at all stages of liver disease, from newly-diagnosed to end-of-life.
Outstanding medical advisory board and resources on topics including liver health & function, lab tests, biopsy, disease progression, treatment & symptom management, clinical trials, diet, complementary & alternative medicine (CAM), HCV/HIV co-infection, transplantation, and organ donation. Collaborates with local health-care providers, transplant centers, American Liver Foundation, Donate Life America, drug/alcohol treatment programs, veterans services, schools, HCV task forces, and others in the common interest of liver disease and organ donor awareness. HELP! was founded by Ed & C.N. Gordon in 1998, when Ed received a life-saving liver transplant at Stanford. Recognized by noted hepatologists Emmet B. Keeffe and Robert Gish, California legislators John Laird and Bill Monning, and organizations such as the American Liver Foundation and California HCV Task Force. Member organization of CalHEP (California Hepatitis Alliance) and NVHR (National Viral Hepatitis Roundtable). AREAS SERVED: Monthly meetings provide information and non-judgmental support in a friendly, comfortable setting for those within travel distance, including Santa Cruz, Monterey, Santa Clara, San Benito, and San Mateo counties. Worldwide access to HELP!s resources is available through the Internet. | ||
| Mission: | Help & Education for Liver Patients (HELP!) is dedicated to hepatitis C and organ donor awareness; support services for liver patients and their families; and integrated counseling for recovering addicts with liver disease. | ||
| Meetings: | 3rd Monday Education Group, 6:30-8:30pm at Santa Cruz Bible Church, 440 Frederick St., Santa Cruz features written materials on liver health & function, understanding lab tests, biopsy, disease progression, treatment & symptom management, herbs, diet, HCV/HIV co-infection, and more. There is no cost to attend, and patients are encouraged to attend with a support person.
2nd Monday of every month, 6-8pm at Jeffery's Restaurant, 2050 Soquel Ave., Santa Cruz meeting exclusively for support persons, family, friends, caregivers | ||
