Kidpower was established in 1989 in Santa Cruz, California, after Co-Founder Irene van der Zande, who still serves as the Executive Director, had to protect a group of young children including her own daughter and son from a man who was threatening to kidnap them. Kidpower has protected over 2 million people of all ages and abilities from bullying, harassment, sexual abuse, abduction, and other violence through workshops, consultation, and educational resources. Our positive prevention programs have been created with the help of experts in education, mental health, child development, martial arts, rape crisis intervention, child safety, and law enforcement. The main office provides support for over 30 grassroots centers and offices in the United States, Canada, Europe, Central and South America, and New Zealand and conducts direct services throughout Northern California. FEES: Sliding Scale. Limited scholarships available. | ||
