Description:The District Attorney represents the People of the State of California in all criminal prosecutions in Santa Cruz County. The Office is responsible for filing criminal charges, appearing in court in all felony and misdemeanor cases, and representing the People in all trials and sentencing proceedings in the Superior Court of Santa Cruz.

Mission:To promote and ensure public safety through ethical and just prosecution.
Programs:CRIMINAL PROSECUTION UNIT:
All local law enforcement agencies submit police reports and requests for the issuance of a criminal complaint to the District Attorney's Office Criminal Prosecution Division.

VICTIM SERVICES:
The mission of the Victim/Witness Program is to inform, assist, and support victims of violent crime in their interactions with the criminal justice system, and to protect their rights in a manner no less vigorous than the protection afforded to criminal defendants.

CONSUMER AFFAIRS/ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION:
The Consumer Affairs unit is part of the Consumer Affairs/Environmental Protection Division in the District Attorney's Office. The Consumer Affairs unit provides assistance to consumers who live, shop or do business in the County of Santa Cruz.

CHECK RECOVERY:
Victims of non sufficient fund and closed account checks may file a complaint with the Check Restitution Recovery Program to obtain recovery of the funds. EFFECTIVE JULY 23, 2012 for all new Check Recovery cases please contact the merchant hotline: (855) 211-0574

ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION UNIT
The Environmental Protection Unit is part of the Consumer Affairs/Environmental Protection Division. The units' focus is on protecting the public from companies that violate environmental laws violations that can threaten the natural environment or endanger public health.
PUBLIC ADMINISTRATOR:
The Deputy Public Administrator investigates and may administer estates when there is no next of kin, no one else willing or able to act on behalf of the decedent, or when appointed by the court because of a contested Will or other extraordinary situation.

BUREAU OF INVESTIGATIONS:
District Attorney Investigators perform a broad range of investigations including investigations into specialized areas not handled by other local law enforcement agencies; investigations into areas targeted by the state; investigations to assist the operations of other departments/programs; and assistance in trial preparation investigations.

ADMINISTRATION:
The Administration Division is headed by the Chief Deputy - Administration who oversees all financial aspects of the District Attorney's Office in addition to managing both the personnel and clerical support units.
