|Description:||WomenCARE is a community of women, which provides advocacy, resources, education and support to all women with cancer, their families, friends and health practitioners throughout diagnosis, healing, surviving or dying. WomenCARE is directed and led primarily by women with cancer or a cancer history. WomenCARE helps women to explore diagnostic and treatment choices from worldwide and multicultural options using information and common sense. We honor and respect a woman's individual decisions.
ELIGIBILITY: Women with any kind of cancer, their friends & family.
|Programs:||WomenCARE offers many FREE support groups, for women with all kinds of cancer. Each support group is led by a trained facilitator who follows the WomenCARE philosophy as she helps the group create a "safe haven" for sharing. Groups include drop-in; post treatment; advanced, recurrent, and metastatic; Spanish-speaking. WomenCARE can help you decide which group is right for you. There is a separate support group for friends and family, providing a place to meet others who understand. All support groups and services are offered free of charge, but registration is required by calling WomenCARE at (831) 457-2273. All meetings are held at the WomenCARE office unless otherwise specified and are facilitated by many wonderful volunteers. Check website or call for details.
WomenCARE's Healing Circle provides educational and experimental groups such as art for healing, writing, meditation, guided imagery, emotional freedom technique, sound play, and complementary treatment forum.
One-on-one peer support is offered through the Sisters Offering Support (SOS) program.. Entre Nosotras provides free assistance for Spanish-speaking women with cancer. For more information about Entre Nosotras, please call (831) 761-3973.
WomenCARE's other services include a lending and reference library, an email newsletter, practical support, a collection of online resources, medical research assistance, legal assistance (from WomenCARE Advocates, Women Lawyers of Santa Cruz County), bodywork services from professional practitioners, phone support, and information and referral.
