| Description: | Drop-in classes for beginning/intermediate and intermediate/advanced students at Santa Cruz Yoga, located on the westside at 402 Ingalls Street next to Kelly's French Bakery in the Swift Street Courtyard. Workshops, teacher training and certification program, and yoga vacation retreats. Check website or call for class times and locations.
Mark's classes blend the focused connection of breath and dynamic movement found in traditional Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga, the focus on alignment and energetic actions emphasized in Iyengar and the sequencing principles (Vinyasa Krama) and individualization of Viniyoga. The yoga practiced is approached an appropriately challenging movement meditation in which students cultivate strength, flexibility, balance, presence and clarity of mind, energetic awakening, healing and spirited being. Mark has consistently practiced yoga since 1992 and taught since 1996. He is recognized by the national Yoga Alliance at the E-RYT 500 level, the highest level of certification. He is the author of Teaching Yoga: Essential Foundations and Techniques. Mark completed the original Yoga Works Teacher Training Program in 1996 and has studied in depth with Shiva Rea, Chuck Miller, Erich Schiffmann, Tim Miller, Richard Freeman, Rod Stryker, Maty Ezraty, Ramanand Patel, John Friend, Judith Lasater, Patricia Walden and others. A native of Santa Cruz, Mark is the founder of Yoga Inside Foundation, a non-profit that has created and supported over 300 yoga programs in prisons, treatment centers, schools, shelters and other settings. This work was recognized by Yoga Journal with its 1st Annual Karma Yoga Award in 2000. Prior to teaching in Santa Cruz, Mark taught at Malibu Yoga and Yoga Works Santa Monica before creating and directing L.A. Yoga Center.
