| Description: | Blind Babies Foundation was founded in 1949 in response to an epidemic of blindness among premature infants. Members of the Variety Club of Northern California saw the need for services for very young children who were blind. They developed a home-based program to keep families intact. Children raised in their own homes with good family support and with training in developmental skills have the best chance to be successful in life.
At the center of our services are the home visits of our specially trained Vision Impairment Specialists who provide crisis intervention, help parents understand their child's vision impairment and how their child will explore and learn about the world. Many infants, toddlers and preschoolers with vision impairments attend early childhood programs. Vision Impairment Specialists consult with program staff and provide in-service training about the vision needs of the child, adaptive materials, and environmental changes that will encourage learning. ELIGIBILITY: infants and preschoolers who are blind or visually impaired. | ||
