| Description: | The Society maintains a sizeable collection of books and other genealogical materials, including journals, microfilm, and digital media. These are not limited to the local area, but cover all states and many foreign countries.
The public is welcome to research in the Society's library, which is housed in the Central Branch of the Santa Cruz Public Library, 224 Church Street, Santa Cruz. A map can be found at our website http://scgensoc.org under Genealogy Library/this collection. Society volunteers staff the Genealogy/Californiana/Microfilm Room for several hours on most days that the Library is open. The Genealogical Society of Santa Cruz County will be pleased to look up information concerning past residents of Santa Cruz County on your behalf. The GSSCC charges a modest fee for researcher time and for miscellaneous expenses (photocopies, etc). Check the website under "Research Assistance." | Mission: | The Genealogical Society of Santa Cruz County is a non-profit organization formed to promote a general interest in the study of genealogy; to provide instruction in genealogical research; to expand the Society's genealogical library; to maintain a working relationship with other genealogical libraries and organizations; to support efforts to preserve pertinent local, state, and federal records. | ||
| Programs: | Regular monthly programs are presented on the first Thursday of each month (except July, August and December), featuring speakers on a wide variety of genealogical subjects. The Society also schedules other programs, workshops and seminars at various times, including occasional evenings and/or weekends. In addition, from time to time, the Society facilitates trips to Sutro Library, the regional branch of the National Archives, and the California State Library. Regular monthly programs are presented at the Central Branch Library meeting room, 224 Church Street, Santa Cruz, or as otherwise announced. | ||
| Meetings: | First Thursday of each month (except in July, August, and December), from 1pm-3pm in the meeting room (second floor) of the Central branch of the Santa Cruz Public Libraries (see Calendar for details). It's suggested you arrive by 12:45 pm for a good seat. | ||
