| Description: | Open Monday through Saturday 7:30am to 3:30pm and closed on Sundays, with the following exceptions:
All day Thanksgiving Day At 12 noon on December 24 All day December 25 At 12 noon on December 31 All day January 1 The Resource Recovery Facility (RRF) includes a sanitary landfill, recycling center, greenwaste drop-off area, and Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off Facility. Maintains and operates the sanitary landfill for use by the City refuse operation and private individuals and businesses from the city. Ensures that the landfill meets all state and federal regulatory requirements. Operates and performs field maintenance on equipment and pumps used at landfill. Operates and maintains the recycling drop-off and processing center at the City landfill. Accepts, sorts and processes recyclable items, such as newspapers, plastics, metals, glass, used oil, appliances, etc. and sell materials to commercial markets. The Resource Recovery Facility and Recycling Center is located at 605 Dimeo Lane, which intersects Highway 1 about 3 miles north of the City limits. ELIGIBILITY: open to City of Santa Cruz residents and businesses. North County residents may use the facility but must pay a 28% surcharge above the established rates. | Programs: | Household hazardous waste can be dropped off from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturdays only at the Resource Recovery Facility on Dimeo Lane.
As of June 2009, City of Santa Cruz residents and businesses are permitted to use the County of Santa Cruz Buena Vista Landfill and Ben Lomond Transfer Station. A surcharge of 28% will be added to regular county fees. City of Santa Cruz residents may continue to use the Household Hazardous Waste Drop- Off centers at the County's Buena Vista and Ben Lomond sites free of charge, and may also drop off "non-fee" recyclable materials at those sites without being charged. If you have questions about the County Disposal Facilities, call 831-454-2430. You can recycle your yard trimmings at the curbside or drop them off at the Resource Facility.
