Second Harvest distributes over 7.3 million pounds of food per year to local hungry families, children, individuals and seniors in our community through our network of 200 agencies and programs.

ELIGIBILITY: Direct food distribution to clients - program requirements vary. Must be a 501c3 nonprofit agency food provider to join as a member agency.
Mission:To end hunger and malnutrition by educating and involving the community.
Programs:Second Harvest staff is a leader in food distribution, volunteer-supported peer nutrition programs to empower clients to make healthy choices, outreach programs to educate and mobilize the public around community hunger and nutrition issues, and food security projects to improve access to healthy foods on the Central Coast.
Decide on dates for your food drive. For our Holiday drive we sponsor the dates of October 1st to December 31st. You can run the Grind Out Hunger for the whole period or just a few weeks. Volunteer Info:During our Monday-Friday work schedule (8am-1pm), the minimum age for volunteering is 14 and for our Saturday sorts the minimum age is 8 years old with adult supervision (someone over the age of 21). Volunteers will help pack produce bags and other projects as needed in the warehouse. For our Saturday sorts, help is needed every second and fourth Saturday of the month from 8:00am-12:00pm and the work consists of packing USDA commodity bags.
