| Description: | The Seniors Council is a community-based non-profit, tax exempt 501(c)(3) organization operating several different programs that provide services in Santa Cruz, San Benito, Monterey and Santa Clara Counties.
ELIGIBILITY: Varies by program. The Area Agency on Aging serves individuals over the age of 60. Project SCOUT serves seniors and low-income families & individuals. The Foster Grandparent & Senior Companion Programs serve low-income seniors over the age of 55. The Seniors Council In-Kind Program is only open to non-profit agencies themselves. | ||
| Mission: | It is the mission of the Seniors Council to enable older persons to function with independence and dignity in their homes and in the community to their fullest capacity. | ||
| Programs: | Area Agency on Aging (AAA) which provides leadership in addressing issues that relate to older Californians; develops community-based systems of care that provide services which support independence within California's interdependent society, and protects the quality of life of older persons and persons with functional impairment; and promotes citizen involvement in the planning and delivery of services. The AAA provides about $1.5 million per year in funding to local non-profits serving seniors.
Tri-County In-Kind Donation: The Seniors Council In-Kind Program receives donations of store returns, unsold inventory and floor models from retail outlets and distributes them to non-profit agencies that serve low-income and needy populations in Santa Cruz, Monterey, and San Benito Counties. 831-465-1778 Conducts public hearings, workshops and forums to explore issues of interest to seniors. Receives federal, state and local funds for seniors services, distributes those funds to direct service providers, and oversees program operations.
