Description:Nationwide voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives from cancer, diminishing suffering from cancer through research, education, and services. Call for information on support groups sponsored by American Cancer Society.

Programs:SUPPORT GROUPS AND SERVICES:

LOOK GOOD, FEEL BETTER a program to help women undergoing cancer treatment look their best. Licensed cosmetologists teach women how to enhance their appearance. Meets at Dominican Hospital Education Building second Monday of the month from 10am-12pm Preregister by calling 462- 7770.

MAN TO MAN A support and education program for those affected by prostate cancer. Meets the ast Tuesday of every month 7:00-9:00pm at Dominican Hospital Education Bldg., 1555 Soquel Dr.,Santa Cruz.

WIGS AND HAIR DONATION:
provides free wigs through a variety of Wig Banks at American Cancer Society Offices and health care facilities. Many of the wigs are donated to the Society and they are distributed through Wig Banks staffed by volunteers.

CANCER RESOURCE SPECIALISTS: help with the many challenges of: variable access to care, lack of knowledge of local resources and treatment options, insurance inequities, legal issues such as discrimination in the workplace, and care for loved ones during treatment absences.

ROAD TO RECOVERY: volunteer program ensures that thousands of patients a year get to and from treatment.

I CAN COPE Conference call format (teleconference), available on a monthly basis. Sessions are open, discussion-based, and interactive. Self-guided classes also available online at http://www.cancer.org/onlineclasses.

PATIENT LODGING: Housing for patients in treatment with focus on patients from outlying areas who require treatment in major urban areas

PERSONAL HEALTH MANAGER KIT: an easy-to-use tool designed to help patients organize and keep track of appointments, medication, test results, insurance, bills, and various other logistical and practical details associated with cancer.

I CAN COPE CLASSES: learn important facts and practical tips about cancer and related issues through telephone conference or online classes.

CALIFORNIA PAIN INITIATIVES

California Young Cancer Survivor Scholarship Program
Meetings:Prostate Cancer Support Group meets drop-in support group, no registration required and no cost to participate. Last Tuesday of every month, 7-9pm at the Education Center Room D, Dominican Hospital 1555 Soquel Dr., Santa Cruz.
