Description:PVOIC is a non-profit 501c3 organization started by Patrick Orozco. His mother, Annie and Grandmother, Rose taught him the traditions and songs they remembered from their days. Their influence led Patrick to interview and record all the Elders he could find, so that their words and experiences will live on.

In 1976, Patrick began his work as a teacher when he was invited to a Watsonville school to teach the children about California native history, sing songs, share stories and demonstrate his traditional regalia, abalone necklaces, clapper sticks, rattles and body paint.

Patrick formed the "Amah-Ka-Tura" (People of the Land) dance group. The dance group has helped many people find their way through life in a good way.

ELIGIBILITY: All people are welcome, members are of Chumash, Salinan, Rumsen, Chipawa, Apache, Esselen, Navajo, Yaqui and Lakota decent also some non indian. Most are enrolled with BIA. Research offered to our members who don't have roll numbers.

FUNDING SOURCE: The PVOIC raises funds through membership fees, and fees paid to our dance group for performances. Additionally, PVOIC is able to offer genealogical research services for a fee, with access to our archives of census and BIA rolls.
