| Description: | McDermott Station is the "new" Bonny Doon Fire Station, and is located at the intersection of Empire Grade, Ice Cream Grade and Felton-Empire Road. This station is designed to house three vehicles, and act as a disaster center for the Bonny Doon area.
Bonny Doon Station 32: 975 Martin Road, Santa Cruz, 457-9378 Bonny Doon Station is home to Engine 3221, Rescue 3261, and Utility 3291. It is also home to a 1929 Mack triple-combination fire engine owned by John Forbes which the team is trying valiantly to restore before it crumbles into its constituent components. It does run and pump, with some coaxing and kids love to ride in it (big and little). We respond to Fire, Medical, and other emergencies throughout the area, and assist neighboring fire districts as well. We can often be found on highway one, assisting the Davenport Volunteers (Company 37) with vehicle accidents and cliff rescues. We operate six vehicles including three Fire Engines, a Water Tender, a 4WD Rescue Vehicle, and a 4WD Utility Vehicle. Bonny Doon Fire and Rescue is an all-volunteer fire company. This means that our firefighters do not get paid a salary, but it does not mean that they are anything less than professional! Every firefighter has undergone extensive training, including Structure and Wildland Firefighting, Emergency Medical Services, Vehicle Extrication, Hazardous Materials Operations, Confined Space Awareness, and much, much more! Each firefighter undergoes hundreds of hours of training prior to performing any emergency services for the community. Most of our firefighters, and all of our officers are certified Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT), some are professional Paramedics. Some team members are professional firefighters working in paid positions locally and in the greater Silicon Valley area. Currently, there are 22 active members of the fire team. Five are company officers, four are driver/operators, six are firefighters, and we have seven active trainees. AREAS SERVED: Our primary response area includes Santa Cruz County Fire Management Areas 32 and 34, which stretch from lower empire grade (at the west entrance of UCSC) up to the top of Empire Grade. To the East, our coverage extends part way down Jamison Creek, Alba Road and Felton-Empire Grade (to where the spring is). To the west, we handle emergencies down to "the belt-line" on Bonny Doon Road. Beyond those borders,. we often assist other organizations as resources allow. | ||
| Programs: | The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations.
