From Back: "Santa Cruz Mission, on the Bay of Monterey, was inspired and planned by President Lasuen in his home in the San Francisco Mission. It was founded in the autumn of 1791 and formally dedicated in May, 1794. The Mission reached its zenith of influence five years after its founding, although it continued to acquire property in cattle and herds.
In January, 1840, an earthquake and tidal wave destroyed the building partially. The final disaster occurred in 1851 when the walls fell. The Mission has now entirely disappeared."
